- 1). Connect your cable modem to the wall.
- 2). Plug your computer into the back of the cable modem by plugging an Ethernet cable into the network port of your computer and connecting the other end to the port on the back of the modem.
- 3). Reboot your computer.
- 4). Open the "Start" menu and select the "Run" option.
- 5). Type in "cmd" and press "Enter."
- 6). Type in "ipconfig /renew" and press "Enter." This will trigger the auto-setup process to assign your computer an address on your new cable network.
