    Qualifications and Training

    • Urgent care physicians are trained doctors. A doctor's educational path, according to the American Medical Association (AMA), is an undergraduate degree, medical school and graduate medical education including residency and fellowships. Doctors may also become board-certified in different specialties, but this is optional. The AAUCM says the American Medical Association has established urgent care medicine as a self-designated/practice specialty. Doctors can become board-certified in this specialty.

    Standards

    • Urgent care doctors, like other doctors, need a license to practice medicine. Each state has their own medical licensure board and sets the standards of practice within their state, according the AMA.

    Continuing Education

    • The AAUCM is the only urgent care organization accredited by the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education. It offers continuing medical education (CME) credits through online resources and its annual conference.
