History

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, new comic book week has been cancelled for the week of December 30th, 2009. This unprecedented event came about due to Christmas and New Years falling both falling on Friday, making UPS unable to deliver new comics by Wednesday. What some saw as a travesty, others saw as an opportunity. Enter Indy Comic Book Week.
Inspired by a indy comic book blog called December Challenge 09, four creators decided to take the concept global and came up with Indy Comic Book Week. Jake Ekiss, Vinh-Luan Luu, Paul Milligan & Matthew Warlick are the team behind the revolution and seek to give comic fans an option come December 30th. From the website: “We challenge writers and artists to self publish new material for this week, and offer it to their local stores.

We ask for retailers to take this as an opportunity to showcase local independent talent on the new release shelves. We encourage fans to break from their buying habits and try something new.”

This is a great chance for creators to get their comics out into a new audience, for stores to make some money in this hard time, and for fans to try something new and support independent comics.
