How to Make Pop-Up Paper Sculptures

    • 1). Fold a piece of card stock paper in half, short side to short side. This makes the base of your pop-up paper sculpture.

    • 2). Cut two notches in the center of the folded edge of your paper, about 1 to 2 inches apart and 1 to 2 inches deep.

    • 3). Unfold your paper partway, and use your fingers to pop the square of paper that you cut out in between the folds. When the paper is unfolded, the cutout square will be popped out as far as your cuts were deep. You can refold the paper and make the cuts deeper, if you like, for a somewhat higher pop-up.

    • 4). Put aside your pop-up sculpture base, and pull out your colored craft paper. Design what you want to pop up from your sculpture. A simple design may be a flat piece, such as a paper frog or face, or a more complex design, such as a house with several stories. Origami objects can also be used in pop-up paper sculpture. Affix the pop-up object to the flat top of your pop-up tab.

    • 5). Refold the base along with the pop-up object, introducing a fold in the object, if necessary.
