How to Create a Button Book
- 1). Design a cover for the book by individually covering the cardboard pieces with the wrapping paper to create a unique look.
- 2). Create a title for the book by stenciling or drawing freehand letters on the colored paper.
- 3). Cut out the letters and glue them to the cover of the book.
- 4). Starting at the top left corner, measure 1 inch down and 1 inch to the right. Mark a small dot with permanent marker and then punch a hole on the dot. Do the same at the bottom left corner. Do this for both cardboard pieces and for the 10 pieces of thick felt material.
- 5). Choose one piece of stiffened felt material to be the first page of the book.
- 6). Draw a design of your choice on the basic felt material with the pencil, and cut out the design. You can also use stencils in various shapes to create a design. This will be the free design that is buttoned to the page.
- 7). Draw a line in the center of the design. This will be the marking point for the slit that will serve as a button hole. The size of the slit is determined by the size of the button. Fold the design at the line and cut the line.
- 8). Draw any permanent designs that will not be buttoned. Cut out and glue to the stiffened felt material. With permanent marker, draw in any details on or around your permanent design.
- 9). Using the pencil, mark the spots on the stiffened felt material that will have a button. Dot a small amount of glue on the back of the buttons, toward the center, and glue the buttons on their mark. Button the free designs onto the button.
