Adventure Time premiered on Cartoon Network on April 5, 2010. The series is about a boy, Finn, and his adventures with his best friend, a shape-changing dog named Jake. The Land of Ooo, where these two reside, is home to a variety of characters, some with special powers and abilities, others who just taste good. The other lands on Adventure Time also have their own inhabitants, sometimes friends and sometimes enemies. This list includes the main characters we meet on Adventure Time.

1. Finn

Finn the Human, the last human in Ooo, was abandoned as a baby in the woods, then later adopted and raised by Joshua and Margaret. He was raised alongside Jake the Dog, which is why the two have such a close relationship. Finn wears a white hat with ears, a green backpack, and carries a sword. He pines after more than one female, including Princess Bubblegum and Flame Princess. His two greatest enemies are the Lich and the Ice King. Finn has a strong moral compass, which pushes him to fight the injustices he encounters. Voiced by Jeremy Shada.

2. Jake

Jake the Dog is Finn's best friend and pseudo brother, having grown up together. He has another brother, named Jermaine, who we met in "Crystals Have Powers." Jake has stretchy powers that let him take on nearly any shape Finn can think of. Jake is very laid back, much more so than Finn. He has been known to make inopportune jokes or evil comments. Jake became a father in "Jake the Dad" after Lady Rainicorn bore his puppies. Squirrel has named him as an enemy, although Jake never remembers who Squirrel is. Voiced by John DiMaggio.

3. Princess Bubblegum

Princess Bubblegum rules over the Candy Kingdom. Although she looks like an eighteen year-old, her age is much, much older. She is very smart, a brilliant scientist. She has created many experimental creatures, including the Earl of Lemongrab and Lemongrab 2, who rule over Earldom. Although the Ice King freqently tries to capture her and force her to marry him, she doesn't hate him. She only finds him annoying. Voiced by Hynden Walch.

4. Ice King

The Ice King is often a foe of Finn and Jake's. His most frequent evil plot is to kidnap a princess, usually Princess Bubblegum, and force her to marry him. His powers are contained within his crown. His crown gives him the power to control ice and snow, really any form of winter. His beard can behave like an appendage, grabbing onto things or growing wings and allowing him to fly. Sometimes he visits his Imagination Zone. In his fan fiction, the characters swap genders: Finn becomes Fionna; Jake the Dog becomes Cake the Cat; the Ice King becomes the Ice Queen. Voiced by Tom Kenny.

5. BMO

BMO (pronounced bee-mo) is a good friend to Finn and Jake. BMO lives with them, becoming nearly any electronic device they need, including a video game console, music player, alarm clock and video player. BMO sometimes has pretend play, talking to himself (as Football) and giving names to the objects in the treehouse, as seen in "Five Short Graybles." Voiced by Niki Yang.

6. Marceline

Marceline is the Vampire Queen, half human and half vampire. Her father, Hunson Abadeer, rules the Nightosphere. Marceline sings one of the most popular songs on Adventure Time, "Fry Song," in the episode "It Came from the Nightosphere." ("Fry Song" was written by storyboard artist Rebecca Sugar.) Marceline has many powers, some of which include levitation, telekinesis, pyrokinesis and invisibility. The Vampire Queen frequently plays elaborate pranks. She plays the bass guitar, and she's very attached to Hambo, her teddy bear. Voiced by Olivia Olson.

7. Lumpy Space Princess

Lumpy Space Princess sometimes lives with her parents in Lumpy Space, and sometimes lives in the woods in the Land of Ooo. Because she is a lump, she has no legs or arms, so she floats. She can give someone lumps if she bites them (werewolf rules). She demands to be the center of attention, even while she's texting on her phone. Voiced by Pendleton WardAdventure Time creator.

8. Flame Princess

We first meet Flame Princess when Finn wants to fix his broken heart. Flambo directs Finn to Flame Princess, where she has been imprisoned in a lantern in the Fire Kingdom by her father, Flame King. Finn rescues her, but finds out she was imprisoned because she has a temper, and when she gets really mad, her inner core gets hot enough to destroy the world. She can create or manipulate fire at will, but her weakness is, naturally, water. She and Finn had a romantic relationship for several episodes. Voiced by Jessica DiCicco.
