How to Clean Wood Window Blinds
- 1). Using a vacuum is, perhaps, the easiest way to clean off dirt and dust from your blinds. To begin, the blinds can be left hanging for cleaning. Use the round brush attachment on the vacuum, and vacuum in the direction of the slats. For vertical blinds, vacuum from the top down, and for horizontal blinds vacuum from left to right. Make sure to vacuum both sides of the slats.
- 2). Use a sock to wipe down each slat of the blinds to clean off more stubborn dust. Place sock over your hand, and wipe the front and back of the slats. To prevent damage to your blinds, dust in the direction of the slats. Alternately, you may want to use a wood cleaner or vinegar instead of a dry sock. Check the manufacturer's instructions before using any type of cleaning solution. If you feel the need to use a cleaning solution, apply the cleaner directly to the sock rather than to the blind. Make sure that the sock does not get too damp. If the wood gets too damp, particularly in humid climates, the slats will begin to warp.
- 3). If you used vinegar or wood cleaner, wipe down slats with a dry sock afterwards. Leave the blinds open to prevent the slats from sticking together while drying. Let dry for about 30 minutes.
