Drink Water

    • Nineties supermodel Cindy Crawford swears by drinking water as a method for maintaining a healthy weight. In addition to revving up the metabolism, drinking water flushes out toxins, contributes to a healthy complexion and keeps the tummy feeling full.

    Eat Early and Often

    • Supermodel Marissa Miller, who has graced the covers of Cosmopolitan and Sports Illustrated, admits there are some models who live on cigarettes and not much else. Miller told Cosmopolitan that her personal strategy is to eat organic food and stick to lots of protein and vegetables. Miller's "stay-slim" tricks are to start her day with steel-cut oatmeal and avoid "white" (processed) carbs.

Snacking throughout the day is another habit many models practice to keep the pounds away. Yogurt, edamame, almonds and even fresh frozen fruits like grapes and watermelon at the end of the day are healthy pick-me-ups. Miller relies on Laughing Cow cheese, Flavor and Fiber Bars and apples to keep her going.

Gisele Bundchen practices portion control and sprinkles cayenne pepper on her food. Spicy foods kick-start the metabolism and trick your stomach into feeling full. Keep a supply of ginger, black pepper and chili peppers on hand to add to food at home or even while dining out.

    Popular Diets

    • Constant traveling and an erratic routine can wreak havoc on the figure. Some of the tips models employ to get back on track quickly include the Model Detox diet, which consists of eliminating alcohol, bread, sugar, caffeine and cigarettes and sticking to fresh fruits and vegetables over the course of a week, and the Grapefruit Diet, which has been around since the 1930s and incorporates grapefruit in every meal. Eighties supermodel Carol Alt has become a devotee of the raw food diet, in which food is enjoyed in its natural state, rather than in its cooked form. Other go-to diets include the Zone (Cindy Crawford is a fan), Slimfast, the green tea diet and the Acai Berry Diet.

    Additional Tips

    • Besides watching what you eat, regular exercise is the key to developing or maintaining a model figure. Gisele Bundchen jogs, while Cindy Crawford combines cardio, weight training and yoga workouts. In addition to regular exercise, many models rely on vitamins and supplements for weight maintenance. Calcium, choline (which metabolizes fat and can be found in eggs and peanuts) and vitamins B2, B3, B5 and B6 can keep the metabolism humming and support healthy thyroid function. Finally, Vitamin C converts sugar into energy and in addition to supplements can be found in broccoli and citrus fruits.
