Another option is to special order a few replacement kitchen cabinet doors that match your stock cabinet's style and frame with upgrades such as panels or glass to completely switch out a few select doors.
- 2). Engrave or burn a design into solid wood stock cabinet doors. Simple wood engraving kits can be purchased for as little as $20, kits with many tips and options are available for around $100. It is also possible to hire an experienced professional to engrave your doors-some come to your home while others will need to have the cabinet doors shipped to them.
- 3). Add door knobs and/or handles to the cabinets and drawers. There are a variety of stock cabinet hardware available in local home improvement stores, as well as special order options in the stores or through online companies. The same handles or knobs do not have to used throughout the kitchen, hardware can be used to accentuates certain cabinets or drawers. Large or ornate custom hardware used on every cabinet in a kitchen can be an overkill.
- 4). Add moulding, trim, and wood appliques to completely customize the stock cabinets. Use wood glue and a nail gun to install the trim. Wood appliques can be stained and painted first, then glued to the cabinet with wood glue.
- 5). Stain or paint the cabinets a new color. Glaze can also be added to alter the color or stain slightly. Consider trying different application methods to achieve unique finishes with the glaze, some applications ideas could include balled up newspaper, specialty brushes, balled up plastic bags, or sponges.
