    Connection Never Starts

    • Sometimes, FrostWire may show the connection initializing, then a message stating "Excellent Condition," but the program doesn't connect. The solution is to click on the FrostWire icon, next to the system clock on the taskbar. Clicking "Restore" should reset the program, allowing it to connect.

Another connection problem, according to FrostWire.com's FAQs, generates the error message "FrostWire was unable to initialize and start." This is usually caused by the user's installed security program blocking "loop-back" connections. A loop-back connection is when the computer talks to itself through the devices on the same network. The solution is to add an exception to the security program you are using. In Norton Antivirus, you would look for the Internet Worm Protection feature and then add the exception for FrostWire to that list. The procedure to add an exception changes depending on the security program you actually use.

    Windows XP SP2

    • There is a known connection problem on computers with Windows XP Service Pack 2, or SP2. This problem "Causes FrostWire to disconnect and stay disconnected permanently," according to the FAQs. FrostWire developers suggest checking for event ID 4226 in the system logs. Do this by clicking the "Start" button, then "Control Panel." While you are in Control Panel, make sure it is in "Classic View" by clicking the link on the left that says "Classic View." If there is no link, you are already in it. From the control panel, click on "Administrative Tools," which is on the top row of icons, then "Event Viewer." Once the event viewer is open, click on the link for "System" on the left. Scroll through the list of results and look for the event ID described above to be present at the exact time of the disconnection of FrostWire from the Internet. FrostWire suggests, if you do find the event listed, to follow these directions: In the FrostWire program click on "Tools," then "Options" and then "Speed" to disable Ultra-peer capabilities. Then, while still in the program, click on "Options" then "Downloads" and limit the number of simultaneous downloads. Then close all other programs not used at the time you are using FrostWire. These actions should fix the problem and FrostWire should connect to the Internet correctly. If not, then contact FrostWire.com for further help.

    Considerations

    • Always remember when you are using a P2P sharing or transfer program, sometimes millions of people may be downloading the same program at the same time you are. If this happens, there is no way to know, and when it happens, it can cause the problems listed here as well. Remember to keep security programs up to date because P2P programs are rampant with viruses and other malicious software, and hackers wait for someone who might not know the symptoms of a virus or a hacker to get into your system.
