Why Conserve Energy?
- The Earth has finite resources and using energy---because of production---consumes them. Additionally, getting to those resources is often harmful to the planet.
- By using less power, less power needs to be created. By using less, the limited resources this planet has to offer can be extended.
- Remember that energy sneaks out of a home or business in a variety of ways. Unplug devices or power cords that are not in use, make sure windows and doors are sealed to prevent loss of climate control, turn off lights and appliances when not being used, and if you can, walk to your destination instead of driving.
- By reducing the amount of energy used in your home or business, the costs of supplying power goes down. This means a smaller energy bill at the end of the month.
- The average home has anywhere from 25 to 40 light bulbs and just by turning off a 100-watt bulb that would typically be in use for six hours a day, one can save around $20 a year.
