Salaries for Vets
Veterinarians provide health care for animals. They diagnose illnesses and injuries and develop treatment regimens appropriate for the situation. Veterinarians carry out surgical procedures and prescribe medicines. They administer vaccines to protect animals against illnesses which often plague various species.
Veterinarians treat a broad range of animals including dogs, cats and other pets as well as farm animals like horses, cows, goats, pigs, sheep and chickens.
Many veterinarians work independently, while others work for group animal clinics or animal hospitals.
Veterinarian Salaries
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Veterinarians earned an average of $84,460 in 2012. The bottom 10% of Veterinarians earned $51,530 or less and the top 10% earned at least $144,100.
