3 Facts You Need to Know Before You Change Career
If you have reached the point where you feel that the only way forward is to change career, there are some things you really need to know before you make a move.
Here are three of the most important.
Fact #1 No Job is 100% Secure When you are looking for a new direction, it is tempting to try to find something which will be very secure.
However, the truth is that no job is ever secure, no matter how it might seem.
There are certainly career fields which are more secure than others.
If you were to lose your job in one of these, you would have a better chance of finding another post than might be the case in a less secure field.
Areas which are considered to be relatively safe are education, medical care, and computer related jobs.
But the question you have to ask yourself is, Do I want to be relatively secure or do I want to be happy? Of course, you would like to be both, but that isn't always possible.
Fact #2 You will Probably Have to Work a Lot Longer Than You Thought When you started out in the workplace, you expected that you would work till the age of 60 or 65 and then retire with a nice pension which would enable you to enjoy your retirement.
This is no longer the case for the majority of people of working age.
Unless you have had a highly paid job and been able to save a large stash of cash, it is unlikely that you will be able to quit your job when you had expected to do so.
Fact #3 Change Is Happening Much Faster Than At Any Other Time in History This is what makes the 21st century such an interesting time to be alive, but it does present challenges when you are trying to make a living.
There are two major implications for careers 1You will have to be prepared to keep learning new techniques and update your knowledge if you are going to stay current in your profession.
2New jobs which weren't even thought of are springing up all the time, offering greater choice and completely new career paths.
