How to Paint a Speckled Ceiling
- 1). Cover everything in the room that you don't want to get paint on including the carpet, walls or furniture. Remove as many items out of the room as possible to give yourself more space to paint and limit objects in the way.
- 2). Apply painter's tape on the wall where it meets the ceiling. If you're painting the walls after the ceiling you can skip this step and save yourself the hassle.
- 3). Dust the ceiling with a feather duster to remove any dirt, dust or cobwebs that will interfere with the painting.
- 4). Paint a cut-in line around the room to prevent visible lines in the finished project. Paint a line approximately 2 to 3 inches wide all around the room where the ceiling and walls meet with a paintbrush.
- 5). Roll your roller in the paint on your roller tray back and forth to completely saturate it but prevent excessive paint dripping. You must use a foam roller, also known as a thick-nap roller, to get paint in-between the speckles.
- 6). Begin painting on one side of the room and go straight across from one side to the other. Do not roll back-and-forth the same way you would on a wall. Once the speckles get wet they begin to peel and you'll damage the ceiling if you attempt to paint in the same area repeatedly.
- 7). Wait for the paint to dry, then apply another coat if necessary. Paint in the same direction you did for the first coat. If you primed the ceiling beforehand, one coat should be adequate.
