    • 1). Locate and mark the positions of the framing studs, using a stud finder and a pencil, on opposite walls of the room. Measure from the ceiling, down to the vertical level where you intend to install the curtain-mounting hook on one wall. Transfer that measurement to the opposite wall to mark the position of the pilot hole for the screw hook at the same level.

    • 2). Drill a pilot hole through each mark, about 1 inch into the framing stud. The drill bit must be slightly smaller in diameter than the threaded shanks of the screw hooks. Screw one hook into each pilot hole. If the hook becomes difficult to turn, use pliers to get a better grip on the hook. Turn the hook until its curved portion meets the wall.

    • 3). Measure the distance between opposite walls. Use a bolt cutter or wire cutter to trim the utility chain 4 to 5 inches longer than the distance between the walls. Although extra chain is not strictly necessary, it will compensate for any error in measurement. Excess chain may be later trimmed.

    • 4). Thread the tops hems or tabs of the curtain onto the trimmed chain. Hang one end of the chain from one hook. Hang the other end of the chain on the hook installed on the opposite wall. Adjust the tension of the chain, if necessary, to remove slack.
