How to Keep Pumpkins Longer After Carving Them
- 1). Pour 1 tbsp. of bleach in a spray bottle and fill it with 1 qt. of water. Shake the ingredients together. Spray the inside of the pumpkin with the bleach water. Allow it to sit for 20 to 25 minutes.
- 2). Rub the cuts with petroleum jelly to slow down the appearance of mold.
- 3). Immerse the carved pumpkin in a sink or tub of water. Allow the pumpkin to rest in the water for three to five minutes, until it absorbs some of the water. This will plump the vegetable back up. You can do this up to two times every few days to freshen the pumpkin as it ages.
- 4). Wrap the pumpkin in plastic cling wrap and refrigerate it during daylight hours. You can do this for up two weeks.
