    • 1). Measure the the width and depth of the window treatment where the cornice will be placed. To compute the finished inside measurement of the cornice add 2 to 3 inches to each end of the treatment width, 2 inches to the depth of the window treatment and 2 inches to the desired height of the cornice face to allow for all-around clearance between the interior of the cornice and the window treatment. The face of the cornice must be long enough to cover the top of the window treatment and any hardware plus the 2-inch clearance allowance.

    • 2). Use the saw to cut the cornice face to the interior finished height measurement (computed in Step 1) plus the thickness of the cornice construction material (1/2 inch). Cut the cornice face to the interior finished width measurement computed in Step 1.

    • 3). Use the saw to cut the cornice top to the interior finished depth measurements computed in Step 1 and the same width as the top.

    • 4). Use the saw to cut the two cornice ends to the interior depth and height measurements computed in Step 1 with the thickness of the cornice construction material (1/2 inch) added to each of these two measurements.

    • 5). Place the top of the backside of the face against the front edge of the top so that the top edge of the face is flush with the upper surface of the top. Glue and nail the the top of the backside of the face to the front edge of the top piece.

    • 6). Glue and nail the end pieces to each end of the cornice so that the front and top edges of the end pieces are flush with the surfaces of the face and the top of the cornice.
