    Wall Art

    • Wall art can tie the colors of a room or its theme together, and can cost hundreds of dollars when purchased from a home design store. Avoid the high prices and create your own wall art from a photograph you took, by having one of your pictures printed onto a photo canvas at a local photo-processing center that also offers services online.

If you did not take the photograph with a digital camera, scan the original picture or the negative into your computer. Then, log on to your online photo-processing account, upload the picture you wish to print onto a canvas and order it. Alternatively, you can visit the processing center in person and have a sales associate assist you with the ordering process. When your wall art arrives home, hang it on the wall above a couch, on an accent wall or even in your bedroom.

    Recreate Your Ugly Couch

    • If you feel your couch is the embarrassment of the decade because of how it looks, you do not have to ditch it. Instead, reupholster or purchase a slipcover for it in a color or pattern you prefer. If you possess sewing skills, you can visit the upholstery section of a fabric store or an interior design store that sells such fabrics, so you can recreate your couch for a fraction of the price of having someone else do it for you. However, if you think you might change your mind about your taste in color, consider purchasing or making a sofa slipcover, which can offer a quick design fix to suit your taste.

Find New Uses for Your Old Items

    • Dig through the items in your home that you do not use often and find new ways to use them. Freshome, an interior design and architecture site, displays a small, silver candelabrum as a coffee table centerpiece. Likewise, you can place a tiered silver sandwich tray on a table as a remote control caddy, or place it on a desk to hold office supplies such as postage stamps or pens.

    Paint

    • A quick way to change the look of a room dramatically is with a coat of paint. Do not be afraid to experiment with a color you like, but may think is too bold or too bright. Paint an accent wall in a room the bold color you like, and paint the surrounding walls with a complementary tone.
