- Optima Batteries is a brand of Johnson Controls, a company that deals in batteries, automotive interiors and energy efficiency in buildings. It was founded in 1885 and its corporate headquarters are in Wisconsin.
- Optima produces deep-cycle AGM (absorbed glass mat) batteries. AGM batteries are maintenance-free and self-contained. In other words, the owner does not have to keep checking water levels. There are three types of Optima batteries: red top, blue top and yellow top.
- Yellow-top Optimas are designed for automobiles and trucks and can be used both in the engine and to power electronics. Red-top Optima batteries are intended only for starting vehicles.
- Blue-top Optima batteries are used in boats and RVs as a house battery to power electrical devices. These batteries can discharge deeply (up to 70 percent) and still can be recharged without issue, and are kept separate from starting batteries.
- Optima Batteries are available worldwide, with dealerships in Europe, Asia, the United States and South America.
