How to Build a Camper Dining Area
- 1). Sketch a blueprint or map of your camper. Keep it accurate by including where the driver's seat is and where other furniture in the camper is located, which cannot be moved. Sketching a blueprint allows you to design the dining area and figure out where it should be built.
- 2). Measure the dimensions of the dining area with a measuring tape. Write down how much room you have in the amount of feet, and determine how much of that space should be filled with furniture. For instance, if you have 5 feet of space to work with, you will need to decide how large of a dining table to build, keeping in mind that you also need the chairs to go with it.
- 3). Draw the outline of a table top on your piece of 1-inch thick plywood. Camper dining tables need not be large. Make it as small as you can so that it functions as a table, but doesn't take up too much room. A decent size for a camper dinette table is 3-feet by 3-feet.
- 4). Saw the plywood table top out of the sheet. Use an electric sander to smooth the edges of the table as well as the table top's surface so that splinters are not an issue.
- 5). Make one leg for the table top to rest on, which will be placed on one end of the table. The other end of the table will be connected to the camper wall in the dining area. Attach the table leg to the underside of the table with an electric drill and screws.
- 6). Place the legless end of the table against the camper wall. Set an L-shaped bracket against the wall so that the L-part of the bracket comes out and underneath the table's edge. Drill screws into the bracket so that the bracket affixes to the wall, as well as to the table. Repeat with a second L-shaped bracket on the other end of the same side of the table for extra security.
- 7). Use an electric drill to affix the leg of the table to the floor with two long screws. Place the screw at a downward facing angle so that the point of the screw looks toward the floor. Push the screw through the leg and into the ground with the electric drill. Repeat for one more screw on the other side of the leg.
