Troubleshooting Headlight Switches on a Pontiac Bonneville
- 1). Disconnect the negative terminal of the Bonneville's battery and let the power drain from the system for 30 minutes before working on the switch.
- 2). Check the headlight switch fuse in the dash fuse box. If it is blown, simply bring it to a car parts store and purchase a replacement. If the fuse is operational then you'll need to remove the switch.
- 3). Determine what section of dashboard or steering column needs to be removed to access the interior of the switch. Locate the screws securing it in place and remove them with the appropriate screwdriver. Pull the dash piece out.
- 4). Pull the headlight switch out slowly exposing the connecting wires. Check to see whether a connection has come loose. If not, then disconnect them. Clip each wire with a wire clip so that they do not fall into the dash.
- 5). Remove the switch from the case. This is done by pressing a small button on the case itself which will release the switch. Purchase and install a new switch by reversing the above steps.
