Housing Grants for Single Women in Nevada
- The Housing Choice Voucher Program is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Local Nevada Public Housing Authorities provide vouchers that cover rent for private housing. If you receive a voucher, you are free to select a house, apartment, condo or town home and are not limited to public housing. The landlord must agree to participate in the program. As a single woman, you are required to pay 30 percent of your income towards housing. The voucher is used to satisfy the remaining portion of the monthly rent. Generally, your income is limited to 50 percent of the median income for your county.
- In Nevada, counties offer first-time home-buyers down-payment assistance to help purchase a home. A low, fixed interest rate my also be offered through the county's program. The amount you can receive varies among locations. The Henderson First Time Home Buyer Program provides new homeowners up to $30,000. Habitat for Humanity also makes home ownership affordable for women with children; the woman's earnings must be less than 80 percent of the area median income. Homes are build by volunteers and sold at no profit to the organization. The mortgage loan is interest-free.
- If you are a current homeowner who is struggling with unemployment or a loss of income, the Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program may help. Unlike a conventional loan, this loan is interest-free and is forgiven after five years of timely mortgage payment. The program will cover your mortgage payment for up to 24 months or award a lump sum payment of up to $50,000 to cover arrears. Contact a HUD-certified Nevada housing counselor to apply.

All single mothers must comply with child support enforcement. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is a federal program designed to help with your energy bill. If you have an income at or below 60 percent of Nevada's median income, you can apply for help. You can also contact local charities, churches or women's resource centers to request emergency financial assistance.
