Overachiever"s Diary, written by Louis Clay Tharp
Their rise to accomplishment is an engaging tale, and one that is told in Overachiever's Diary: How the Army Triathlon Team Became World Contenders, by Louis Clay Tharp.
Tharp, a competitive swimmer and World Masters medalist, is swimming coach of the West Point Tri Team. During his own individual journey toward a healthier lifestyle, he found Total Immersion, a unique training approach created to give quicker, more fluid results than conventional methods. He used these methods to help the Cadets maintain efficient strokes, increase speed and maximize workouts through not only physical means, but also cognitive.
Louis Clay Tharp. wrote day by day emails to the Cadets including what to expect at practice‚ its benefits, why it's useful and how it will be carried out. This special coaching instrument resulted in a collection of descriptive, inspiring and often funny emails that ultimately turned into Overachiever's Diary.
The book is divided into three sections:
* Mechanics: Drills, tips and techniques
* Math: Calculating efficiency and speed, in addition to establishing practical goals
* Motivation: Inspiring emails sent to the Cadets before important events
Tharp's mentor, and founder of Total Immersion, Terry Laughlin, supplied the intro. The book also contains several essays by Laurie Ferguson PhD, psychologist and motivational speaker, on the importance of motivation, confidence and attitude.
Overachiever's Diary breaks down motivation and mechanics into terms every athlete can understand. It enlightens, inspires and pushes the physical and psychological limits of overachievers worldwide.
