- 2). Contact individual pharmacy-tech course providers. Complete a course and obtain a course completion certificate for submission with your pharmacy-technician application.
- 3). Download and fill out the "Application for Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPT)" form (see Resources). As of 2010, the application fee is $25, payable to "Professional Licensing Agency" by check or money order. If you choose this exam, apply online and register for this exam by credit card or electronic check (see Resources). As of 2010, the PTCB pharmacy-technician exam fee is $129. Optionally, you may take the exam administered by the Institute for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT exam). To register, you must call LaserGrade, the testing company for the ExCPT, at 800-211-2754. As of 2010, the fee is $105, payable by credit card. However, you may ask for instructions on the phone to pay by check or money order.
- 2). Study for your chosen exam. Access the "Exam Preparation" page to get study tips and references for the PTCB exam (see Resources). Refer to the "Exam Content" and "Testing Procedures" sections of the "Candidate's Guide" to find references and material for the ExCPT exam.
- 3). Take your chosen exam. Save the exam certificate showing that you passed.
- 4). Fill out the same pharmacy-technician application used when taking an approved course to qualify. Pay the same fee and follow the same filing instructions to apply for certification.
