How to Calculate QST GST
- 1). Find the total cost of the item in question prior to any taxes.
- 2). Add the 5 percent GST to your item by multiplying the price of your item by 0.05 to find out how much this tax is. Add the amount that results to the original price of the item. For example, the cost of a $10 item multiplied by 0.05 is 0.5, or 50 cents. Adding 50 cents to the original cost of your item makes it $10.50.
- 3). Multiply the price of your item, with the GST included, by 0.085 (8.5 percent) to account for the QST. If the price of your item with the GST is $10.50, its cost multiplied by 0.085 is 0.89, or 89 cents. Add this to your original total; the total price with GST and QST is $11.39.
