Guitar Notation For Beginners - Your First Step To A Clapton Lick Or Dire Straits
Guitar notation is all about notes and timing of the beat and tempo etc.
I can still recall learning the staff of lines and spaces and their corresponding names when I was a beginner but I lacked the commitment to really learning to read music and is does make learning somewhat more difficult for me today.
I'm not asking you to become a musical savant or anything of the sort but knowing how to read music is a lot like knowing how to speak a different language.
You may rarely need to use it but it sure comes in handy when you do need it! You definitely need to make a commitment to this when you are first learning the play the guitar.
It's not fun, it's not glamorous, and when I was learning, it didn't even sound like music.
But as a guitar beginner, you need to know the fundamentals and build a foundation that you can continually build on.
Knowing how to interpret the staff and notes of a particular piece of music is like knowing the secret code.
It helps even when you're not actually reading or playing off the actual musical notation.
The staff is five lines and reading bottom to top: E-every G-good B-boy D-does F-fine The spaces are also notes and from bottom to top: F A C E It's pretty easy, the lines are "Every Good Boy Does Fine" and FACE is the spaces.
So strap in and get your mindset ready for the fun and excitement of learning guitar notation.
Keep at it and don't get discouraged because later on when you're playing an awesome Clapton lick or something from Dire Straits, everything you learn in this lesson will help your tempo and you may be playing single notes at times.
Guitar notation for beginners...
you need it, and I'm glad I'm past it!
