Installation of a Peat Trickling Septic System
- 1). Consult the septic system design as to where the peat module will be located. Peat filter modules will be installed after the septic tank and between the primary pump chamber and the secondary pump chamber or drain field.
- 2). Excavate the soil to the dimensions of the peat module and elevations specified in the septic system design. Allow for three inches of a sand-bedding material to be placed on the excavations bottom.
- 3). Pour the sand into the excavations bottom and level to the septic system's designed elevation with a shovel and rake.
- 4). Insert a chain through the peat modules lifting ropes and to the excavator's bucket. Raise the module with the excavator and lower it into the excavation.
- 5). Insert the drain pipe into the rubber gasket drain on the peat module until it fully seats against the stop.
- 6). Clean the dosing pipe end and inlet pipe with PVC primer.
- 7). Apply PVC cement onto the primed areas of the pipes with the applicator. Push the cemented pipes together and turn 1/4 turn. Hold the newly cemented joint together for 30 seconds to insure a quality connection.
- 8). Backfill the excavation with native soil and compact with a vibratory compacter in 6- to 12- inch increments.
