How to Change Thermostats on a Chevy Beretta
- 1). Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine.
- 2). Locate the thermostat housing at the end of the hose. Unscrew the two bolts to access the thermostat.
- 3). Pull the housing with your hands. This will expose the thermostat housing. Pull the thermostat out. Remember the position the thermostat was positioned in the thermostat housing.
- 4). Scrape the gasket material off the housing surface with a razor scraper. Scrape the gasket material off the inlet manifold.
- 5). Squirt a bead of black silicone rtv around the thermostat housing surface. This will hold the new gasket in place while you are positioning it to the inlet manifold.
- 6). Insert the thermostat in to the housing. Push the housing to the inlet manifold. Tighten with a socket wrench.
- 7). Twist open the radiator cap. Fill to the neck with anti-freeze. You may have lost some coolant while changing out the thermostat.
