Most of us have had a prescription filled at a local pharmacy and dealt with a Pharmacy technician and are familiar with this type of work.
In pursuing a certificate in this study, you will obtain training for employment in a hospital pharmacy, a community pharmacy, or a large pharmacy chain store under the supervision of a pharmacist.
It will probably take six to eight months to complete this course.
As you might know, the primary task of the Pharmacy Technician is to prepare and fill prescriptions there are other details involved.
Most graduates of a training program will have studied the basic aspects of pharmacy practice, including reading, filling and distributing prescriptions.
Also, they must be aware that the pharmacy has legal responsibilities for record keeping and the handling of various drugs.
It is a necessity to become familiar with basic pharmaceutical calculations, medications, common drug interactions and their side effects.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics has indicated an increase in this health care field much faster than the average, and demand for qualified employees.
Job opportunities are expected to be available.
A consideration is the increased number of middle-aged and elderly people in the general population.
It is common for those aged people to need more prescription drugs than younger people.
In addition, new drugs coming on the market to cure disease, along with more obtaining prescription drug coverage, are factors that lead to the conclusion that pharmacy workers will be needed.
