How to Select Words and a Picture for One Animation in PowerPoint

    Simple Effects

    • 1). Open your presentation file in PowerPoint. Navigate to the slide on which you want to create the animation.

    • 2). Select the "Animations" tab in the program menu.

    • 3). Press and hold down the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard and use your pointer to select the picture and text box on your slide. Release the Ctr key and the screen items will remain highlighted.

    • 4). Click the drop-down menu next to the "Animate" option in the navigation tab. Choose to add the fade, wipe, or flying animations from the drop-down menu.

    Custom Animations

    • 1). Open your presentation file in PowerPoint. Navigate to the slide on which you want to create the animation.

    • 2). Select the "Animations" tab.

    • 3). Click "Custom Animations." A vertical panel will open on the right side of the program screen.

    • 4). Press and hold the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard and use your pointer to select the picture and text box on your slide. Release the "Ctrl" key and the screen items will remain highlighted.

    • 5). Click the "Add Effect" button at the top of the animations panel. Select the type of animation you want to apply (entrance, exit, emphasis, or motion paths) in the drop-down menu. A secondary drop-down menu will open and you may choose from the list of effect options. Once you've made your selection, the animation will populate in the panel list.

    • 6). Further modify the animation by browsing through the options: select the animation in the list and click the drop-down menu to see further options to customize the animation.

    • 7). If you want to change the animation after you've selected one, click the animation in the list. Note that the button at the top of the animations panel now says "Change." Click the "Change" button to change animations.
