Instructions for Planting Erica Persoluta
- 1). Obtain seeds for Erica persoluta from a commercial seed provider. This plant has a variety of cultivars with different characteristics, especially with respect to the color of the flower.
- 2). Select a planting site for Erica persoluta. This plant can grow outside in U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 7 through 9, meaning it thrives in areas where the lowest annual temperature is between zero and 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Erica persoluta grows best in full sun, and can tolerate partial shade.
- 3). Fill the planting pot or seed bed with sandy loam or regular loam. Mix enough peat with the soil to lower the soil pH to between 5.0 and 6.5.
- 4). Sow the Erica persoluta seeds directly on the soil and cover them with a thin layer of soil sufficient to block the light. Keep the soil moist with regular water, but do not allow the soil to remain wet. Erica persoluta seeds should sprout within a month.
- 5). Place a potted Erica persoluta outside in full sun when the temperature is between 29 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. This plant dies to the ground when it encounters colder temperatures.
- 6). Harvest Erica persoluta flowers from March to early April. This flower is in full bloom for about 3 weeks.
