Pennsylvania Home Inspection Training
- Pennsylvania home inspector training may be completed either through live classroom training or through a study-at-home program. Community colleges, professional home inspector organizations and online schools offer home inspector training programs. Be sure that the particular program complies with Pennsylvania regulations.
- A Pennsylvania home inspector trainee joins a not-for-profit, nationally recognized professional alliance as part of the training. Professional alliances with Pennsylvania chapters include the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI).
- Trainees study and take exams on the standards of practice for Pennsylvania home inspection. Standards of practice dictate how an inspector evaluates areas of a home--for example, the roof, the foundation or the HVAC system.
- Pennsylvania recommends at least 100 for-hire home inspections prior to completion of training. Some programs, like NAHI's, recommend up to 250 for-hire home inspections to qualify for certification through the organization.
- As of 2010, Pennsylvania did not require a universal certification for home inspectors. While the terms "licensed" and "certified" are used interchangeably by most Pennsylvania training programs, be wary of programs that promise universal certification.
