How to Fold a Flag Navy Style
- 1). Bring the flag down the flagpole and unhook it from the halyard (the rope that the flag hangs on).
- 2
Face the other person. Hold the flag waist-high and make sure it is horizontal to the ground. Ensure that the Union (blue background with stars) is the furthest from the audience and to their left. - 3
Fold the lower part of the flag in half lengthwise OVER the Union (field of stars). The folded edge should be facing the audience. - 4
Fold the flag lengthwise one more time. This means that the flag will now have a quarter fold in it. The left side of the flag (from the audience's view) should only show the Union (blue with stars), no stripes showing. The right side of the flag should only show 3 full red and white stripes and a small part of another red stripe showing at the side furthest from the audience. If your flag does not look like this, then start over and make sure you fold the flag in the correct direction from the steps. - 5
Hold all edges taut and begin a series of triangular folds, making right to left folds. Begin by making a perfect triangle starting at the far right end of the flag (according to the audience view) and fold in the edge nearest the audience, inwards to the furthest edge. Fold flag in other direction. Fold again and again until you reach the Union (blue). - 6
Fold the last triangle shape and tuck the upper left edge of the union into the top fold of the triangle. Make sure this is tight with no edges peeking out. Only the Union with blue field and white stars should be showing. - 7). Store flag in a commemorative case or somewhere safe until it is used again.
