How to Drain Water From Garage Floor
- 1). Clear the floor of as many items as possible, such as boxes, storage bins and vehicles.
- 2). Open the garage door in preparation for the water removal.
- 3). Clear the edge drain. When a driveway slopes down to the garage door, an edge drain will have been installed just outside the garage door. If you have one, make sure it is clear to allow fast water drainage.
- 4). Squeegee the standing water to the garage door opening, starting from the point farthest from the garage door opening. While firmly pressing the rubber squeegee blade onto the floor, quickly push the squeegee in the direction of the open garage door. Do this in one sliding pass keeping the blade on the floor until it is outside the garage door. Most of the water can be pushed outside by repeating this step.
- 5). Remove remaining water puddles using a wet vacuum.
- 6). Dry the floor by leaving the garage door open if possible.
- 7). Remove excess moisture from the entire garage, including the air, walls and contents, using a dehumidifier while all the doors are closed. Having all the doors closed helps to prevent outside humidity from entering.
- 8). Drain the dehumidifier when full.
- 9). Replace cardboard boxes that became wet or damp when the water accumulated. Otherwise, wet or damp boxes will grow mildew.
