Weight Control with Metabolism and Glycogen
Weight control! Wow! What can I do to achieve this elusive life-changing goal? First of all you will want to educate yourself on some things that will help you accomplish this. I speak of weight control as if it is something you can win because it can be won!
Education is something you want to keep in mind when you purchase anything. More so when you are speaking of things that effect your life and your physical shape. When searching for a weight loss program, do your homework because you wouldn't want to take a chance on sabotaging yourself with a lot of unachievable goals.
Weight control is not something that is easy for some folks. When you see a close friend, or anyone for that matter, eat whatever they want without the first thought of the pounds they don't gain, most likely they have a natural, high metabolism that they were born with. Then for other folks it seems if they just look at something they would love to devour, it automatically means more weight gain.
Metabolism has a lot to do with this and if you have a low one, it is more likely that you will have trouble with weight control. There are several ways to increase your metabolism. The number one and most underestimated is to increase your muscle mass. This is a sure fire way to increase your resting metabolism. Resting metabolic rate simply put, is the amount of calories that you burn off while you are doing nothing.
Most people think that when muscle mass is mentioned that it means you have to be a body builder and this is just not the truth. Champion body builders are very educated in what metabolism is and they are also very educated in what type of foods to eat and not to eat. As I had mentioned, you absolutely have to educate yourself.
Now lets talk about muscle mass and how you obtain more. You also want to keep what you have. This is what is so important about exercise. Who likes to exercise? What I personally can say about this is that the longer I stick with it, the better I feel! Not only do I feel better (more energy) I also gain or keep that all important muscle mass.
What is glycogen? This chemical complex of sugar molecules is strung together in multiple, branched chains and is how your body stores carbohydrate energy. It doesn't matter if you eat a bowl of pasta or a banana your body stores carbohydrates as glycogen. Glycogen is stored in your liver and in your muscles. I have no idea why this is not mentioned more often. Glycogen is your key to burning fat!
Let me attempt to explain this in a simple way as to not confuse anyone. Glycogen is one of the major energy sources for the human body. Stored fat (triglycerides) is another and it is the energy we want to burn off. When we exercise we strip our muscles of this glycogen (energy source) and our body will have no choice but to burn the other energy source (stored fat). When we have more muscle mass we have more storage area for this glycogen and we can strip more thus also burn more fat! What this means to us is the all elusive weight loss! As I always say I wish you the best in your weight loss goals
