Minority Scholarships for Business
- Many organizations offer business scholarships to multiple minority populations. For example, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants awards the $3,000 Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students to students who are African-American, Hispanic, Native American or Asian-American. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (awards the $5,000 Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship to candidates who are African-American, Native Hawaiian, Native Alaskan, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander or Hispanic. The KPMG Foundation awards the annual $10,000 Minority Accounting Doctoral Scholarship to African-American, Native American and Hispanic applicants.
- Some organizations offer scholarships with preference to African-American applicants. For example, the National Association of Black Accountants administers a national scholarship program that awards scholarships ranging in value from $1,000 to $10,000 to undergraduate students. To be eligible, an applicant must be attending school on a full-time basis and must be an active NABA student member. Current high school students are not eligible to apply. Applicants must submit a personal biography of 500 words or less and two letters of recommendation along with a completed scholarship application.
- Some organizations offer scholarships specifically limited to Hispanic and Latino students. For example, the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting has partnered with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund to offer tuition assistance to undergraduate Hispanic and Latino students through the ALPFA/HSF Scholarship Program. Most scholarships are valued at between $1,500 and $2,500, though some applicants may receive up to $10,000. To be eligible, an applicant must be of Hispanic or Latino origin, must be a United States citizen and must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Applications must be submitted by January 31.
- Some organizations offer scholarships that are only available to Native populations. One example is the Native American Finance Officers Association. The NAFOA awards scholarships of $1,500 to Native American and Native Alaskan students pursuing a degree related to accounting and finance. NAFOA scholarships support students at both the undergraduate and graduate level and are awarded on the basis of an applicant's academic merit, interest in finance and demonstrated commitment to Native communities.
