    • 1). Put on soft gloves that come with the kit or supply your own. Never touch the weights with bare hands because they will tarnish from the oils on your hand.

    • 2). Wind the clock so that the weights are 4 to 6 inches from the top of the clock's inner mechanism. Remove the weights by unhooking them from the mechanism. If you lift them off the hook, they will come right off.

    • 3). Place the weights somewhere safe and soft where they will not be disturbed. Put the right weight on the right side and the left weight on the left side so you will know where to put them when they are replaced.

    • 4). Lift up the pendulum carefully from its hook. Continue to wear the soft gloves and be careful not to bang the pendulum or the springs that are holding it.

    • 5). Remove the locking device found at the top of the dial inside the clock. It will be either a screw or a clip that you need to twist in order to remove it.

    • 6). Find the small metal rod connecting the indicator to the chime lever. Remove this and the bracket, but first take a picture of it or write down exactly where it should go for reassembly purposes.

    • 7). Unscrew the bolts holding in the seat board. This will enable you to pull the wooden frame from around the dial.

    • 8). Hold an index card lengthwise and cut a slit in it from one edge to the center of the card. Place the slit in back of the nut holding the hands. Set the clock hands to twelve o'clock. Remove the hand nut and then wiggle the hands of the clock gently, being careful not to bend them.

    • 9). Unscrew the four screws holding in the wooden-and-glass frame on the door around the clock face. Hold the frame tightly because the frame will be heavy. Do not drop it.

    • 10

Remove or slide down the rest of the frame surrounding the clock mechanism. Work slowly and carefully so that nothing drops or bangs against the mechanism. Unscrew the assembly holding the mechanism and lay the mechanism on a hard flat surface.

Take the oil cleaner from the kit and use it to remove the oil from around the pivot points until all the old oil is removed. Use the oiler to flush the pivot points with oil. Do not let the oil touch the levers.

    • 12

Use the microfiber cloths contained in the kit to clean up any excess oil. Try not to touch any of the brass gears and remember that only the pivot points need to be oiled.

Reassemble the clock in the opposite way you disassembled it, being careful and working slowly. Remember to reset the clock and wind it.
