How to Get a Job as a Construction Laborer
- 1). Take courses in high school that will be helpful such as English, math, physics, blueprint reading, welding and general shop.
- 2). Attend a trade or vocational school or community college that will train you to become a construction laborer. Training programs combine both classroom knowledge and hands-on experience.
- 3). Get into an apprenticeship program. These programs tend to range between 2 and 4 years of classroom and on-the-job training. You may also need to get safety training.
- 4). Talk to site managers and project managers. Tell them the type of position you are seeking. If they are not hiring, they may be able to refer you to someone else who is hiring.
- 5). Register with the local office of your state's Department of Labor. These agencies maintain databases that help connect employers with potential employees.
- 6). Register with temporary help agencies in your area that specialize in construction jobs.
- 7). Apply for jobs in building, demolition and tunnel and shaft excavations. Ensure that when you apply for jobs, your experience and other credentials are included on your resume.
