How to Replace the Headlight Shield on a Taurus
- 1). Turn off your Taurus and wait half an hour for the headlights to cool down before working on them. Prop open the hood.
- 2). Detach the wiring harness from the back of the headlight assembly by depressing the side clips.
- 3). Unscrew the securing ring that holds the socket and bulb in place by twisting it counterclockwise. Pull the bulb out of the socket and set it aside.
- 4). Locate the white retaining clips that hold the plastic shield to the rest of the headlight assembly. Wedge a flat head screwdriver between the white retaining clip and the plastic shield and pry upward, popping the retaining clip. Do not pry too hard to avoid breaking the retaining clip, which you will need to mount the replacement shield.
- 5). Pull the loosened retaining clip over the plastic shield's tab and set the retaining clip aside. Repeat this process for the other clips.
- 6). Detach the shield from the headlight assembly. It should come off easily. Position the replacement shield so that it matches the mating surface of the headlight assembly. Insert each retaining clip over the tab and pull it so that it slides down the tab and secures around it. Repeat this until all of the retaining clips are secure.
- 7). Reinsert the headlight bulb into the socket, secure the locking ring and reattach the wiring harness to the rear of the headlight assembly.
