"Dancing on Ice" - A British Figure Skating Reality Show

"Dancing on Ice" is a British figure skating reality show. The show's format bears some similarities to Skating With Celebrities that aired for one season in the U.S.A. The series began in 2006. Unlike some other skating reality shows, "Dancing on Ice" continued successfully season after season. The show instantly was successful and has over nine million viewers weekly.

Format:
Weekly, celebrities partners skate a live ice dance program. The judges rate each performance with a score between zero and ten. There is also a chance for the public to vote.
The two ice dance couples that score at the bottom compete again in a "Skate Off," and the judges score the routines again. One ice dance couple is eliminated each week.
Required Figure Skating Moves:
Each week, one figure skating element is required to be done in each ice dance team's program. Some of the moves have included side by side spins, pair spins, spirals, cross strokes, shadow skating, skating with props, and assisted jumps.
Creative Directors:
Olympic ice dance champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean coach "Dancing on Ice" participants. During the show, the also provide comments and advice. Torvill and Dean also perform in every show. Karen Barber also teaches the performers. Some of the celebrities Torvill and Dean trained for the ITV Dancing on Ice show include Kelly Holmes, David Seaman, Tamara Beckworth and Andi Peters.
Judges:
Some of the judges for the "Dancing on Ice" have included Olympic figure skating champions Robin Cousins and Katarina Witt.
Torvill and Dean's Bolero Re-Created:
During "Dancing on Ice," Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean re-created their famous Olympic program, Bolero, that receive nine perfect 6.0 scores, for the show's audiences.
