New Releases Thru August 25, 2009
1. Joan Sebastian - 'Pegadito al Corazon'

2. Ruben Blades - 'Cantares del Subdesarrollo'
His first album in six years, Cantares del Subdesarollo (Songs of Underdevelopment) was recorded at Blades' home in Los Angeles. He started recording the album in 2003, played most of the musical instruments and sang the vocals without benefit of formal arrangements or the use of special effects. This technique makes Cantares a fully acoustic album, basically recorded in the same way that ‘garage bands’ have been making music for years.
Earlier this week, I wrote about this album claiming that it would only be available on Blades' website, but -- here it is on Amazon for those who would prefer that method of purchase or download.Buy from Amazon »

8. Juan Calle & His Latin Lantzmen - 'Mazeltov, Mis Amigos'
A rerelease of a 1961 recording, this album was an inside(?) joke since Juan Calle was actually John Cali, a banjo player who worked with the Vincent Lopez Orchestra and the supposed Lantzmen include among them Ray Barretto, Willie Rodriguez and Charlie Palmieri.
The gang obviously had fun with both the theme and the music.Buy from Amazon »
