How to Write a Freelance Proposal
- 1). Type your proposal, even if you will be delivering it in person or by mail. This gives it a polished, professional look. While you're at it, use a word processor to scan your document for errors.
- 2). Write a cover letter. Open with a compelling argument about why you are a great choice for the specific job in question. Include your pricing information, time to complete the job and of course your contact information. Keep it short and professional in tone.
- 3). Include samples. Pick samples that are your best work, and, if possible, related to the topic of the assignment. It's also a plus if you can mention that your samples have been published previously, but relevance and good quality are usually more important.
- 4). Include a resume, especially if you have a lot of relevant experience. If you have satisfied customers, add quotations from them, their contact information (with permission), or the phrase "references available upon request."
- 5). Double check the ad you are responding to and make sure you are following their instructions exactly. Writing an amazing freelance proposal won't do you any good if you send the wrong details and prove to the employer that you can't follow directions.
