    • 1). Verify the element is the problem before you order a new one. Look inside the range, using a flashlight to see. If the element looks pitted, scarred or cracked and is not working efficiently, it is probably time for a new one. Check the part number by looking at the reference number on the element, and order a new piece.

    • 2). Turn off the power supply before you start work to ensure you don't get an electric shock while you're rewiring the element. Speak to your house members and let them know not to turn the power back on until you complete the work.

    • 3). Take the baking racks from inside the range and put them to one side.

    • 4). Locate the connectors at the back and side of the element. Undo the screws that are holding it in place. Slide the element forward a little bit until the wire cables are easily accessible. Grip the pliers in your hand and firmly tug the cables until they come away from the element. Remove the element from the oven and dispose of it.

    • 5). Install the new element. Ensure all packaging is taken off and that no film remains on the element. Place the element inside the range in the same position as the old one. Join the cables onto the connectors with the pliers, making sure they have a firm connection.

    • 6). Turn the power back on and put the range on full heat. Wait for it to reach maximum temperature and let it burn off any residue from the element. It may smoke and smell unpleasant for up to half an hour. When it has stopped smoking, turn the oven off and put the racks back inside.
