Oasis farming is also called oasis irrigating farming. It refers to the local farming with irrigation water source which distributed in droughty desert regions. There are old ones and new ones. The old oasis generally distributeed in the river and lake waterfront in droughty desert region, piedmont belt and the dew place of alluvial fan underground water. The new oasis farmig is the new reclamation area which opened up in the appropriate farming land of droughty desert region which is rich in resource and superior in exploitation with the social productivity development and water conservancy condition improvement. They mainly distributed in xinjiang and hexi corridor of Gansu province, etc. There mainoly grow the wheat, corn, cotton and a few rice, etc. Furthermore, there also afforest and bulid the rural settlement. It's distinct from the Gobi Desert and desert view all around, it looks like the green island in the desert, and it's also the place which the husbandry was also quite advanced and population  is quite concentrate.

Irrigation farming refers to the water farming in general. Its characteristic is to satisfy the plants' needs towards water through irrigation measures, adjust the earth temperature, moisture and soil air, nutrient so as to improve the land productivity; it's high and stable yields farming. Another one refers to the farming that in the arid and semiarid with bare rainfall that rely on the irrigation completely. This kind of farming distributes in our countries's flat area and hill slopes widely. With the technological development, it also stretches to the west ceaselessly.

The farming developed in the river valley area called river valley farming. The valley area of High Mountain is quite suit for cultivation, since its terrain is lower than the hilly area, the temperature was quite high, frost-free season is longer than the hilly area, the rainfall conditions is quite well and river water can be the irrigation water source. Moreover, there are usually forests in the mountain ridge between the river valleys, this made the humus in valley soil quite abundant. For instance, the Yellow River Valley and Huang River Valley of Qinhai Province in China both are typical valley  farming area; they are the main farming area of Qinhai Province.
