Dieting has become a national pastime with advertisers, authors and companies making billions pitching us the next magical weight loss book, device or pill.
While one would think that all these available remedies and programs would cause a significant drop in the obesity problem, on the contrary?during the past two decades our national obesity rate has soared.
Dieting has turned millions of us into food junkies, driven compulsive eaters who grow fatter every year.
Studies have shown that diets more often than not lead to weight gain! Because the body does not know the difference between dieting and starving, once a severe dietary regime is concluded it will voraciously store food as fat as a protection against further unreasonable onslaughts.
It also showed that those people who want to shed off excess weight tend toperform worse when tested for reaction times, rapid information processing and memory.
How on earth can you concentrate on anything when there are chocolate biscuits and bars to think about? So you want a diet that works? Here's one.
Drink only water, eat only a thousand calories each day, and combine it with 3 minutes of aerobic activity 5 days each week.
It's a sure thing you'll shed weight.
But there are two issues.
First, cravings will likely ruin the diet.
1 calories and all that exercise will eventually lead to ruinous hunger and binge eating.
First it's a potato chip or piece of cake, then it's an extra hot dog and the whole bag of chips, and then the diet is ended.
The second issues is the diet eventually ends.
You eventually go back to eating the same old way.
Next spring, or next fancy dress occasion, or next family trip, or simply the next time you look into a mirror on the way out of the gym it will be time to return to a diet to lose the unwanted pounds.
The best diet is a forever diet.
More and more people are coming to realize that to lose weight it's best to change lifestyle, including healthier eating habits and more exercise.
Connie Guttersen created the Sonoma Diet which, as a base, focuses on 1 'power foods'.
