Initial Vocational Education & Training
- In the member states of the European Union "vocational education and training is chosen by an average of around 50 percent of all students in upper secondary education," says a EUbusiness article titled "EU Policy on Vocational Education and Training-Briefing." In Canada, Australia and the United States most of the governmental programs are focused on adult and continuing education.
- In Europe vocational education and training programs differ by country in respect to the type of the institution, and the age or level of education of the people involved. In Canada and the U.S., most secondary schools offer vocational and academic courses in the same curriculum, but their number is decreasing due to of the lower interest in them.
- In his study "The History of Vocational and Technical Education," Dr. Howard R.D. Gordon, a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at the University of Nevada, says that presently "there is increasing concern that the U.S. is not adequately preparing a growing pool of new workers (...) for productive, successful roles in the workforce." That's why he considers essential the adaptation of the education system to the rapid changes in the global economy.
