Perry and Bachmann Too Extreme?

In a Fox News poll two candidates stood out as being too extreme to be seriously considered for President.
Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann topped the list.
Does this mean if one of them wins the nomination that they will lose to President Obama? In the poll, 18 percent of all voters said Michele Bachmann and 14 percent said Rick Perry was "too extreme to be seriously considered.
" Amongst independents, those numbers increased to 19 percent for Bachmann and 17 percent for Perry.
What does this mean? Does this mean that independents will not vote for Bachmann or Perry? I find it funny that key commentators on the republican side are already saying independents are the key to the election.
Everyone knows this is true, but they rarely say it, especially this early in the race.
On the September 1st edition of Special Report with Bret Baier, Charles Krauthammer and Fred Barnes mentioned that this could be an issue for Perry in the general election should he be the nominee.
Barnes brought up Reagan's run in 1979 and said that he too ran into some issues about some early statements that pushed independents away.
Reagan's solution was to get disciplined and stop talking about items that could hurt him with independents.
It worked! Barnes said that Perry should do the same thing, and specifically mentioned his stance on evolution, which would drive independents away.
Does this mean if Perry or Bachmann wins the nomination that they will lose to President Obama? It might mean that.
With the current state of the economy, I honestly don't see how President Obama can win reelection.
This poll seems to suggest that if the GOP elects Perry or Bachmann, Obama may stand a chance.
I personally do think Perry and Bachmann are too extreme to be seriously considered.
It appears I am not the only one who thinks that way.
Who wins in 2012 will largely depend on the nominee in my opinion.
Mitt Romney seems like he would be a shoe in and win a large majority of the independents.
If he is the nominee, he will get the republican vote, even if he isn't as conservative as some may want their nominee to be.
To me that is the ultimate candidate.
Someone that can draw in the critical independent voting block and get the republican base.
I think whoever the nominee is, they will get the republican base.
So the question is, who can get the independents? I don't see Perry or Bachmann being able rally independents behind them.
Then again, with the economy in shambles, people may just vote against Obama regardless of who the nominee is.
