How to Set Up iMail

    • 1). Enter your username and password into the fields that appear in the "Setup Assistant" box that automatically pops up when you first open the Mail application. Click "Create" from the bottom right.

    • 2). Select whether the incoming server information account type will be POP or IMAP. POP is a one-way communication path. For example, if you link your Google email account to Mail, you may read all your messages in Mail or on your mobile, but when you go into the Google server, it appears as if you haven't read any of your emails. With IMAP, it's a two-way communication path, so your email will stay synced to the server no matter where you access it.

    • 3). Name your mailbox in the "Description" field. Organize your mailboxes with labels like "Personal," "Work" and "School." Click on "Continue."

    • 4). Make sure the SSL box is checked if you want password authentication.

    • 5). Choose your outgoing mail server. This is the default you will send messages from. Fill in the description field and enter the password for the account you are using.

    • 6). Decide on your outgoing server security settings. This is the same process as Step 4. When you are finished, click "Continue."

    • 7). Look over the account summary and verify that all the information is correct and click "Create." Your new mailbox will appear in the side bar of the Mail application.
