We named our rescued Portuguese Waterdog, Brigham Young Waterdog.
He was found in a shelter in Utah with no identification and was flown to Pennsylvania by the rescue association.
We believe that he was just shy of two years in age and had been trained to walk on a leash and respond to basic demands.
He was fond of children and there were youngsters that would come and ask if they could take him for his walks.
He was a great joy for our family and it was a very sad day when we said goodby after 12 years of companionship.
Fortunately, we had a large collection of photographs.
Most people do have many photographs and great memories of their deceased pet.
Writing a book for family and friends can be rewarding.
I found that it could be therapeutic as well.
The first steps in preparation is to assemble your collection of photographs, spread them out, and see if there are pictures that can be grouped together regarding some incident or activity.
Then comes the chore of making notes, regarding each grouping, and identifying the activity that might be of interest to a your intended audience.
Prepare a draft, combining words and photos which can be edited on your home computer.
If you are really serious then take some time to look for a publisher.
The first logical step is to go to a page, like Google, and enter in "Book Publisher".
Then stand back and the first page will have ads like--Seeking a book publisher? Self publish your book--We will publish your book--Find a book publisher.
It goes on and on and you can spend literally days in examining the many options available.
Unfortunately, you eventually must pick a publisher, if you are planning to make your fame and fortune as an author.
Probably the most frustrating steps are now before you, when you will be given a myriad of instructions, from your publisher.
Included will be the format required to be submitted to ensure proper printing and eventual publishing.
Your publisher will have advised you to register your book with the federal copyright office.
This also takes time and, like most government forms, is confusing and may require reentry before you and the publisher get final approval.
Hooray, you are now ready to go to press.
The next question is will you be able to get on the list of the major distribution companies? Here again, you are at the mercy of your publisher, and will find more instructions and ideas for a web page or other methods, which will add to your outlay of dollars, to becoming a literary success.
My suggestion, is to consider preparing your manuscript and visiting you local commercial printer.
There, you will find numerous suggestions, and advice, on how to publish your "GEM" in limited quantities for distribution in your very warm market consisting of your friends and relatives.
