How Do I Hook My Computer Up to My Television?
- 1). Check the back of the computer tower or the rear edge of a laptop and the back panel of the television to locate a six-sided port labeled HDMI. This port contains 19 connectors arranged in two rows. If both the computer and TV have this port, use an HDMI cable to transfer picture and sound.
- 2). Push the plug on one end of the HDMI cable into the port on the computer or laptop with the wider edge of the plug facing upward.
- 3). Connect the plug on the other end of the HDMI cable to the back of the TV in the same manner.
- 1). Plug one end of the S-video cable into the round S-video input socket on the back of the TV, matching the four pins in the plug to the four holes in the socket.
- 2). Check the back of the computer or laptop for an S-video socket. If available, plug the other end of the S-video cable from the TV into the socket. If unavailable, use a VGA adapter and continue to the next step.
- 3). Plug the S-video cable from the TV into the matching socket on the S-video to VGA adapter.
- 4). Connect the VGA plug on the other end of the adapter to the VGA port on the back of the computer by matching the three rows of metal pins to the holes in the port. Tighten the lock screw on each side of the VGA plug to secure the connection.
- 1). Insert the mini-plug on the Y-adapter into the computer's Line Out jack or headphone jack if using a laptop.
- 2). Connect the two plugs on one end of the stereo cable to the jacks on the Y-adapter.
- 3). Push the plugs on the other end into the two audio input jacks on the back of the TV.
- 4). Turn on the computer and TV, then press the TV remote control "Input" button until the image from the computer appears on the screen.
